An introduction to 16th and 17th Century reading and writing skills.

The course covers how to make quill and reed pens, how to make oak gall ink as well as how to read and write in both italic hand and secretary hand with its different letter shapes. We will be looking at handwriting styles, common abbreviations, period use of spelling and punctuation and conventions.

The day should be of use to anyone who wishes to be able to read period documents as well as people who wish to demonstrate such skills as part of their interpretation to the public.
