The Elizabethan traditions of Christmas.

So much of our current Christmas tradition is only as old as the Victorians or merely 20th century. The older traditions of the 12 days of Christmas have largely been forgotten and certainly our attitude to this part of the year is completely different to that of our ancestors - why did those with Puritanical ideals seek to ban it ?.
